This is why Edwin Chiloba’s murder opens our eyes to what society has become.

The Murder of Edwin Chiloba sparks lasting debate about what the society has become in so many ways not only because of the gruesome details recently revealed but also because of the nature of the murder. Firstly, from the confessions the suspect made to the number of accomplice that the investigations have given, it is proof that sometimes your closest allies are your worst enemies and threat in life.

Edwin Chiloba’s family have also come out and claimed that he was not part of the LGBT community as he was raised Christian and these points to the naivety of just whole point of you because an individual can be so many things and live in privacy which Chiloba evidently didn’t.

The Fact the investigation team has asked for 21 more days to carry out further investigation shows the critical attention given to the case as it is of great public interest. However, whichever direction this investigations take, it is worth highlighting the critical fact that society has changed and we are witnessing higher levels of brutality and animosity of humans towards fellow humans on the daily basis which is slowly being normalized and which is a threat to the human existence.

For the millions of individuals who responded quickly and condemned the killing of Chiloba, that was the most thoughtful response and the general idea is that he was killed for being LGBT. Well, many people jumped on the bandwagon to defend him as LGBT rather as a upright life  loving human because they though he was killed for his LGBT support and activism. When the news followed that he was killed by a close friend and supposed lover, all over sudden the mood changed and the sympathy and martyr status given to Chiloba was quickly changed and you could feel the change in tone and attitude get cold on twitter and other platforms.

With the fact that life lost can never be regained it is worth questioning our response and even the steady decline level of humanity amongst people this days. It is not just right to assume that society is the way it was decades ago especially before the age of the internet which has changed our thinking and our behavior towards each other and collective view as well.
