Kenyan rapper Reassess Teejay, born Trevor Thiriri has always been reflective about the state of affairs in the day to day livelihoods of people living in his community and of the society at large. Tapping into his passion for music from a tender age of nine, Reasess found himself influenced by the hiphop music and culture by legendary hiphop icons like Ice Cube and Dr Dre among others whose style was globally acclaimed. With a pursuit to follow his dream and explore his growing passion for music, Reassess explored different hiphop subgenres while in his high school and discovered that he could channel his thoughts and creativity trough this hiphop medium.
Locally in Kenya, Reasses was influenced by the likes of Kalamashaka, Bamboo, Abbas, Octopizzo and others that got massive airplay on local radio stations such as Kiss fm and others. Growing up in the Eastlands part of Nairobi, Reassess experienced both the good and the tough in New Njiru town in the East of the city where matters such as insecurity, crime and other societal challenged plagued the community, leading him to embrace music as a tool to distract him from this harsh realities to confront through music.
Reasess gained his stagename from his friends in school from his particular interest to dissect issues using freestyles on school breaks where he engaged his friends with witty rhymes and came out on top at local school talent contests where his talent began to flourish.
After highschool, Reassess set on a quest to embark on a musical journey to record his songs that he had written and came to discover the challenges of the real world in music making craft. In 2021, Reassess was actively engaged on the Kenyan music scene dropping several projects including Bars of Gold, Movement among other project that enjoyed positive reception from his growing fanbase. Reassess has also featured on Express Show live a Kenyan music and entertainment podcast show that interviews and spotlights new African talent.
Reassess music has matured overtime through sharpening his composing and delivery skills. His latest release, is a song titled Chronicles which features fellow artist and producer Lucky. The song released on December 12 is also accompanied by a well shot and directed visual project available on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIyzyOuQy9I The song was a follow up of two earlier projects that are also quite relevant to the times namely; Feels good to be real and See Saw also released in 2022.
Reassess is currently working on new projects to build up on his body of working and bring positive change through music as well as address pertinent issues facing the youth and the community at large as he represents #39 Njiru town, East of Nairibi to the rest of the world through true hiphop music.
